“Let’s just track everything.”

This sounds like a good analytics strategy until the system becomes impossible to maintain.

Teams assume more events automatically mean better insights.

In reality, overtracking often creates the opposite:

• more implementation mistakes
• duplicated events
• inconsistent naming
• harder QA
• slower debugging
• lower trust in dashboards

And the scale grows surprisingly fast.

Imagine:

• 1M users
• 100 tracked events per session
• multiple sessions per day

Very quickly you end up generating billions of event rows every month.

If analytics is self-hosted:

• infrastructure costs grow
• pipelines become heavier
• storage requirements increase massively

If you use external platforms:

• query costs explode
• dashboards become slower
• analysis becomes more expensive over time

But the biggest problem is not even the cost.

It’s signal quality.

One broken critical event is often more dangerous than missing 20 low-value events.

Because bad data creates false confidence.

Good analytics is not about tracking everything.

It’s about tracking the right things consistently.
