About Alex

I’m Alex.
I figure it out.
I get it built.

I’ve spent 15+ years building products across consumer apps, social networks, fitness, payments, and smart-home systems.

I’m comfortable in the product discussion, the database, and the codebase. I investigate user behavior, challenge assumptions, and build across iOS, Android, Flutter, and Kotlin Multiplatform.

I run X91 Tech. Work with me and you work directly with the person doing the investigation and implementation. I listen carefully, tell you what I think, and take responsibility for my work.

What I take on

From figuring it out to getting it done.

You may only know something is wrong. You may know exactly what needs building. I work from either starting point.

01 / Product & data

Find what is actually holding the product back.

Product decisions, user behavior, funnels, activation, analytics, experiments, monetization, and complex product problems.

02 / Development

Build, modernize, or untangle complex products.

Mobile and desktop development, architecture, Kotlin Multiplatform, migrations, integrations, CI, and difficult engineering work.

Don’t know what to build or fix next? That’s a problem too. I investigate what’s holding the product back, what deserves attention, and how we’ll know it worked.

Professional background

Products I’ve worked on.

Experience across my career, including work within existing teams. These are not all engagements commissioned through X91 Tech.

Consumer food & cooking

Whisk / Samsung Food

I implemented recipe details, recipe actions, a share extension, and other iOS features at Whisk, working in a four-person iOS team and contributing to code review.

SSH client · Developer tools

Termius

Over a few months with the Termius team, I helped improve the purchasing flow.

Neighborhood social network

Nebenan.de

My work has included mobile development, modular architecture, CI and automation, ads integration and maintenance, and product experiments.

Fitness & mobile products

Myworkout / MyBioAge

My work spans iOS and Android, Kotlin Multiplatform, registration improvements, A/B tests, and fake-door tests.

Connected devices

Smart-home systems

As lead iOS developer, I worked with a team of up to four developers to deliver an MVP and version 1.0, including offline demo behavior, device communication, encryption, and synchronization.

Payments · macOS

PayMaker

As the sole macOS developer, I implemented payment serialization, data import and migration, IBAN validation, and scripting support.

Earlier: the first version of Fielmann’s iPhone app, a pub game for Budweiser, a C++ iPad game with 20+ mini-games, offline OpenStreetMap routing, taxi dispatch, a banking app, bill splitting, and more.

Independent work / X91 Apps

I also build
my own products.

Alongside my professional work, I design and build independent products. That means working through scope, implementation, release, and the decisions that follow.

X91 Apps is the home for that side of my work.

Let’s talk

Bring me
the problem.

An app that needs building. A migration that needs someone to own it. Numbers that don’t make sense. A product decision your team can’t resolve. Tell me what’s happening. I’ll tell you whether I’m the right person, how I’d approach it, and what the work would cost.
