I worked through onboarding, product questions, and measurement for a fitness app.
I improved registration, introduced Jobs to Be Done and regular product-health metrics, ran onboarding experiments, investigated demand for social features, and reviewed tracking.
Work across the product, from registration to new feature ideas.
My work on the fitness app covered onboarding, product research, experiments, metrics, and tracking. I investigated how people used the product and worked on the decisions and implementation around it.
Find where onboarding frustrates users.
I reviewed onboarding and analyzed which questions frustrated users and where they spent more time. I used that investigation to improve registration and revisited the third-party login buttons.
I also ran several onboarding experiments.
Look beyond registration when defining activation.
The company defined activation as finishing registration. That measure said nothing about whether a user had performed a workout.
I introduced Jobs to Be Done to frame product decisions around what users were trying to accomplish. This brought workout behavior into the discussion of activation, beyond account setup.
I also introduced metrics for regular review of product health and growth.
Promising interest. Different priorities.
I investigated the social-feature opportunity using a fake-door test and a user survey. The fake-door test showed promising interest.
The company’s priorities shifted before the idea went further, so social features were set aside for the time being. The test still gave an encouraging signal for the direction.
Review the tracking behind the analysis.
I reviewed the tracking implementation alongside the product work. The engagement connected registration improvements, experiments, user research, and the metrics used to understand the product.
Bring me
the problem.
An app that needs building. A migration that needs someone to own it. Numbers that don’t make sense. A product decision your team can’t resolve. Tell me what’s happening. I’ll tell you whether I’m the right person, how I’d approach it, and what the work would cost.
